This new piece by Sonic Emancipation draws inspiration from the ancient Buddhist fable about a brave parrot who,
despite the overwhelming odds, tries to extinguish a forest fire with nothing but drops of water from its wings.
The story embodies themes of compassion, gratitude, and the relentless spirit of self-sacrifice, which are deeply
resonant with Buddhist teachings. The track combines spoken word with a powerful chorus and a segment of authentic
Buddhist chanting, creating a spiritual journey that reflects the parrot's unwavering resolve and the transformative
power of dedication.
Born out of a recent trip to Cambodia, this song is a tribute to the rich Buddhist culture and the profound experiences
that shaped its creation. The fusion of traditional elements with modern music echoes the timeless message of the fable
while offering a fresh, evocative listening experience. Through this song, Sonic Emancipation invites listeners to
contemplate the impact of small, compassionate actions and the potential for profound change, both within ourselves
and in the world around us.
An Ancient Fable
In a thicket at the foot of the Himalayan Mountains there once lived a parrot together with many other animals
and birds. One day a fire started in the thicket from the friction of bamboo in a strong wind. And all
the birds and animals were in frightened confusion.
The parrot, wishing to repay the kindness he had received in the bamboo thicket, tried to do all he could to
save them. He dipped himself in a nearby pond and flew over the fire shaking off drops of water to extinguish
the flames. He repeated this diligently with a heart of compassion and gratitude.
This spirit of kindness and self-sacrifice was noticed by a heavenly god who came down from the sky and said
to the parrot: "You have a gallant mind, but what good do you expect to accomplish with just a few drops of
water against this raging fire?"
The parrot answered:- "There is nothing that can not be accomplished by the spirit of gratitude and self-sacrifice.
I will try over and over again and then over again in the next life." The great god was impressed by the parrot's
spirit and together they extinguished the fire.
[Buddhist Chanting]
(Chorus)
Love and compassion, self-sacrifice, light the way
Let go of desire and happiness will surly come and stay
To walk the eight-fold path is a choice to be made every day
